This talented musician has three albums to her name and was in the running for four awards at the 2014 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. Her partner Brent 'Parks' Park, described as “a beat-maker by trade”, is the producer and music director behind Ladi6, and together they have crisscrossed the world on tour with their band and raised their 10 (almost 11) year-old son, Philli.

How has becoming a parent changed your life?

My life has become more grounded, has a more wholesome nurturing perspective and is full of love, laughter and companionship.

What do you love most about being a parent?

Having someone know me so completely and vice versa to share my life with. Someone to nurture and having someone to love so completely that when all else fails that connection and love lifts me.

What do you like most about the early primary years?

The innocence and wonder at all things, learning the basics is such a huge part of this time period and I really enjoy watching the progression.

What are some of the challenges of the early primary years and how do you deal with them?

I haven't found many challenges from the child, but my own parenting reminders have been about teaching kindness, compassion, encouraging interests, having flexibility but also ensuring and defining household and school time roles & responsibilities. Setting him up for a happy, stress-free primary school existence.

What are your hopes and dreams for Philli as he moves forward in his life?

To know himself, to like himself.

Why did you become involved in Raising Children and what do you like about the project?

I like having the ability to find advice from people that I admire and seeing how they parent their kids, the challenges they face can often feel validating.

I wanted to feel like I was participating in this sharing of knowledge.
